Post Flea Market Cleanup

We are still working on removing the items that did not sell at the flea market. There are items going to other churches, goodwill, and the scrap yard. On August 21st we had our final workday of the summer to break down the old computer desks. Between all the old (and unusable) tables and chairs we were able to make two sizable truck loads to the scrapyard near the 16th street bridge.

You can see my truck which held the oldest freezer in Pittsburgh and Bill’s truck was equally as full.

Flea Market 2010

This past Saturday we held a flea market in an effort to raise some extra money and get rid of a lot of extra stuff we have been storing. The day went very well and we had a number of people stop by. We even rescued a lost puppy! Click more for photos.

First Sunday Lunch

On July 4th we held our first summer lunch to fill time inbetween worship and Bountiful Blessings. We had a good number of people join us.

Thanks to Carol and Hannah Schumacher for preparing the meal. Afterward everyone missed the chance to see pastor roll up his sleves and mop the floor. The two of us stayed to cleanup as others went to Distribute food and items.

Lunch on First & Third Sundays

Everyone is invited to lunch on the 1st and 3rd Sundays in July and August after the service. The lunch was initiated when we realised that we have about an hour gap between the worship service and Bountiful Blessings hours. Rather than change hours, again, we decided to add a light lunch to the schedule.

Last week was our first of the summer lunches and we had a nice turnout. It was very pleasant to share a meal with those we serve regularly. We hope to see you there with the community that comes four our Bountiful Blessings and Food Pantry.

Workday Saturday

There will be a workday this Saturday June 12. We hope to see you there as we will be doing general cleaning as well as clearing more garbage out of the Annex basement.

St. Matthew Building Projects

Two weeks ago Bill Watts and Norm Huelsman came up with a list of projects that need to be completed around the church. We are hoping to execute these over the next year. Some are larger than others but this at least gives us a list of things we want to complete. So expect to see updates.

Clean up back yard trash area
Build a shed for lawn mower
Remove trash & junk from annex basement, boiler room, bell tower (May
Re configure Food Pantry layout
Install lights and exit signs
Remove blue chips from playground
Update signs on North Ave
Remove old freezers
Repair sanctuary ceiling
Paint exterior of bell tower and window frames (install lights for bell tower)
Repair playground fence
Clean out front office
Sell old computer desks/cabinets
Donate/sell misc., school material supplies

We have a number of workdays scheduled throughout the summer as well. May 8, June 12, July 10, and August 14. So please mark your calendar and plan on helping us cross off more of the list.

Kid’s Club

We have now started a children’s ministry called Kid’s Club on Wednesday nights. Our leaders are Willis Voland, Carol Schumacher, Hannah Schumacher and the youth from Prince of Peace. If you have any questions please call Carol or Willis at 412-889-5511.
